Villa Cleaning in Jumeirah: The Majlis, Sand and Large Windows - Al Asfour Al Zahabi - 0588837818
Jumeirah villas are close to the sea and spacious: sand blows in from the garden, the windows are large, and the majlis needs special care. A practical guide to planning the cleaning and splitting up the tasks.
The Challenges of Cleaning Villas in Jumeirah
Jumeirah villas are usually spacious and two-storey, with a garden or courtyard, and close to the sea. That means fine sand blows in every time the door opens, the big windows get coated in a layer of dust and salt, and the majlis where you receive guests needs to stay in top condition. Cleaning a villa this size without a plan eats up a whole day and still leaves the job half done.
Work From the Outside In
- Clean the entrance, outdoor walkways and door mats first so sand doesn't get tracked back inside.
- Sweep the courtyard and balconies before washing the glass, or the dust will end up right back on it.
- Then clean the windows and glass doors inside and out, for the ground-level sections you can reach safely.
The Majlis: Carpets, Sofas and Curtains
The majlis is the most-used part of the villa. Vacuuming the carpets and sofas weekly removes sand before it works its way into the fibres and dulls the colours. Heavy curtains hold a lot of dust, so vacuum them with a soft nozzle every now and then and have them deep cleaned roughly every 6 months. Deal with stains on fabric straight away using a damp cloth, blotting rather than rubbing.
Marble and Porcelain Floors
- Sand on marble causes scratches over time, so vacuuming or gentle sweeping before mopping is essential.
- Use a pH-neutral cleaner on marble — acidic products such as vinegar dull its shine.
- Stairs and banisters need wiping separately since they're touched so often.
The Kitchen and Multiple Bathrooms
A villa usually has more than one bathroom, and it's better to spread them over several days rather than tackling them all at once. In the kitchen, focus regularly on the extractor hood, the outside of the appliances and the inside of the cabinets. In bathrooms that are rarely used, run the water weekly to stop drain odours.
A Suggested Weekly Schedule
- Day one: The entrance, balconies and majlis.
- Day two: The kitchen and dining room.
- Day three: Bedrooms and bathrooms on the upper floor.
- Day four: The remaining bathrooms, the floors and the stairs.
